oil and 23K gold leaf 50" x 74" 1997 Renee McGinnis' Colin Powell is an abstract psychological portrait of a great man. One side of the painting is black and one side white with a beautiful lyrical blending in the greater, more powerful center (suggesting peace and compromise). It is here in this gray area that a linear black triangle is supporting a white arc. The black triangle suggests a powerful male torso, the white bending to become part of it. Carefully placed around the triangle are 23K gold squares. These state firmly the order and power of our nation's military and enhance the artists intentions of creating an inspiring, symmetrical, and noble place, honoring a grand philosophy and a great American.
