Artist Statement

My love for drawing goes back to my childhood. I have memories of doodling on small pieces of paper, sometimes drawing abstract mazes and sometimes copying other pictures that I would see, never thinking I measured up to much of anything artistically. I was always too shy to show anything that I did so I’d toss it in a drawer or in the garbage.

It wasn’t until recently that I decided to pursue drawing on a more serious level. I took my first “real” drawing class at the local college near where I live. The teacher told me that I had real talent and that she hoped I could go further. I thought she probably told everyone that.

I have found drawing and painting to be one of the most rewarding, relaxing things I’ve ever done. It’s almost funny that I’m typing an artist’s statement because I never considered myself an artist, but just one who loves to draw. This is the only exposure I’ve had for my art, and I hope you find it enjoyable.
